About Footloose Sports

Footloose Sports has been a beloved Mammoth Lakes gear shop for more than 40 years.

Sven Coomer opened Footloose Sports in 1979 as a 400-square-foot boot fitting service in Mammoth Lakes, CA. Andrea and Tony Colasardo joined Sven to run the store in the 1980s before combining forces with Mary and Corty Lawrence. In the late 1990s, Footloose moved from its former location at Canyon & Minaret Roads to its current location in the heart of Mammoth.

Current owners Silver Chesak and Zach Yates both spent many years working in the store for the Lawrences and the Colasardos before buying the store in 2017.

We’ve always been a family store.

Extensive product knowledge and an amazing selection of gear are important to us, but treating customers like family comes first at Footloose. We’re your one-stop-shop for everything your family needs for your Mammoth Lakes ski trip, camping trip, family vacation or weekend getaway.

We don’t believe in one-size-fits-all.

No other ski shop in Mammoth Lakes takes demo rentals as seriously as we do (think every size & width of many models of ski boots and Superfeet included with every rental boot). We’re known for having the best and newest technology and gear. Tony Colasardo and Corty Lawrence were the main trainers for Superfeet. Footloose was the first shop to use the Wintersteiger stone grinder. Our approach is highly individualized, whether we’re helping you find the right ski boot, hiking shoe, rental bike or backpack.

We love sharing our knowledge.

Our employees live and breathe all things Mammoth Lakes. Need a trail recommendation? Wondering which base ski lodge will be best for you? Not sure where to go for dinner? We love sharing our favorite things and insider tips about Mammoth Lakes to make your vacation even better.

We’re a green business.

We’re a certified member of the California Green Business Network. The certification requires each business to comply with environmental regulations and practices related to waste, energy, water, pollution prevention and air quality. Learn more.

“These guys are friendly, knowledgeable, have a good selection, and good prices. But what really sets them apart is the willingness to go above and beyond to make the customer happy.”

- Dave L. (Yelp)

We love our community.

We have a long history of community involvement. We’re involved with various community events throughout the year as a host and as a sponsor/supporter.

We’re also home to The Rolling Chef food truck in Mammoth. The Rolling Chef opened several years ago in Bishop, then expanded their fusion Latin American kitchen with a new food truck that you’ll find in our parking lot in Mammoth Lakes. Check their Instagram or Facebook for hours/days they’re open.
